An original Civil War era Confederate Bowie style knife with a large clip point iron blade. It is an unmarked Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia and follows one the well-known Boyle and P. Burger patterns. (See reference: page 30 of Albaugh’s photo supplement). It is complete with its original leather scabbard/ sheath. The grip/handle is probably American walnut. This knife was originally purchased, in 1993, from the estate of John Buchele of Alexandria, Virginia. Mr. Buchele was a member of the John S. Mosby Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans. It was later sold by Shannon Pritchard of Old South Military Antiques.
