An inscribed Colt 1851 percussion Navy revolver. On the backstrap is engraved “P.M.S.S. Co.” which stands for the Pacific Mail Steam Ship Company. This steam ship company pioneered steamship service to California, in 1847, establishing mail and passenger service between New York and California, in the 1850’s and 1860’s.
This pistol is serial numbered 164668 with all parts matching, including the wedge. It was manufactured in 1863.

Condition: Iron retains a good honest, uncleaned dark aged patina – Cylinder still shows traces of scene, and undamaged percussion nipples – Brass is a light mustard color aged patina – All markings clear with exception of the serial number on the butt, which matches, but is quite light – Grips have a few dings, small chips, and possibly an old coat of added varnish – Action functions perfectly
