A RARE Civil War era Confederate Naval cutlass by Courtney and Tennant, Charleston, South Carolina (Robert Mole, Birmingham, England). It has a brass cavalry style guard and checkered leather grip scales. The iron blade is marked with the maker’s mark on the left ricasso and “MOLE” on the top edge of the blade, just below the guard.

Condition: Blade uncleaned with some staining and light aged patina – Guard has a nice dark mustard aged patina and one small bend at the sword knot hole, and a few dings at the very top, as if dropped on a rock or concrete – Grip has some shrinkage and wear to checkering – “MOLE” marking is deep and clear – “Courtney & Tennant Charleston S.C.” marking is weak at right and lower portion
