Description
A Confederate States modified tongue and wreath buckle with an original leather belt. This brass buckle was originally a standard issue, two piece “US”, tongue and wreath, Union buckle. It was expertly modified to read ”CS”, during its period of use, the American Civil War. There is one leather keeper, and a buckle for size adjustments of the leather. All edges of the leather belt and keeper are tooled with a single line.
Overall Length: 36″
Width of Belt: 1.65″
Diameter of Buckle: 1.95″
Condition: Buckle retains a wonderful dark age patina – Leather is soft and pliable with some surface cracking & losses, and appears to have had cartridge loops, a one time, now missing with the stitching holes remaining – Keeper may be a replacement, as its condition is much better than the belt, or a much higher quality leather
