Description

An original Civil War era Confederate Bowie style knife with a large clip point iron blade.  It is an unmarked Boyle & Gamble of Richmond, Virginia and follows one the well-known Boyle and P. Burger patterns. (See reference: page 30 of Albaugh’s photo supplement).  It is complete with its original leather scabbard/ sheath.  The grip/handle is probably American walnut.  This knife was originally purchased, in 1993, from the estate of John Buchele of Alexandria, Virginia.  Mr. Buchele was a member of the John S. Mosby Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans.  It was later sold by Shannon Pritchard of Old South Military Antiques.

Condition: Iron with light pitting and a dark aged patina overall with some damage to knife edge, about 3″ ahead of guard – Wood is in good condition with light dings and a great old, aged patina – Leather has some losses, but solid with a nice aged patina
