A very high quality Civil War era corp. badge. It appears to be sterling silver, beautiful enamel with gold lettering and trim. It has a raised musket style cartridge box on a red field, upon which it reads “FORTY ROUNDS U.S.” for the 15th Corp. – 1st Division. It is not maker’s marked, but of such a high quality it must have been made by a jeweler, such as Tiffany & Co. of New York or another. It still retains its original “T”shaped pin clasp and catch.
Dimensions: 1.50″ x 1.50”
Condition: Silver retains a good dark aged patina – Enamel on the cartridge box has one chip at the upper right edge with some very light surface scratches, the red face has 3 lines of discoloration, and one small spot within or under the enamel (they do not appear to be cracks) – Pin functions perfectly
