A nice example of an 1842 U.S. martial, single shot, percussion “horse” pistol. It is marked ” U.S. I.N. JOHNSON” on the lock plate, just in front of the hammer, and ” MIDD TN CONN 1854″ vertically, behind the hammer. The wood stock is clearly marked with two cartouches stamped in the left side. Several parts are stamped with inspector’s initials. The left side of the barrel is stamped ” STEEL B” at the breech end. This pistol still retains its original, captured, ramrod.
Caliber: .54 percussion
Overall Length: 14.25″
Barrel Length: 8.45″
Condition: Metal parts have been very lightly cleaned, years ago, and now beginning to tone – Stock is solid & sound with a few stress cracks, some are very fine and hard to see – Bore is good – Action is crisp
