Description

An ambrotype of six California Artillery Militia members in full uniform and Shako hats.  The image is a half plate size, on glass, in an embossed leather case with a gold embossed mat.  The soldier’s buttons, buckles, cap badges, epaulettes, shoulder straps and collar insignia have been enhanced with gold paint, by the photographer.  This photographic process was popular from the mid 1850s. thru the mid the 1870s.  The hard image was acquired, years ago, directly from one of the photographed soldiers descendants, in Marysville, California.

Exposed Image Dimension: 5.30″ x 4″

 

Condition: Image is quite clear with some discoloration around the edges – Case leather is bruised, especially at the edges and corners, both latches are intact, the hinge is weak and has been repaired with a cloth strip
